John Michael Grinsell was my father. He was born in 1934 and died in 2011 from Motor Neurone Disease. During the 18 years of his illness he began to write up the story of his life. He didn't finish his memoirs but there was still such a lot that he did manage to write, it seemed a good idea to create a blog so his family, friends and interested readers can learn about his life.
The drawing at the top of the blog is of the quayside in Newcastle upon Tyne. My dad drew this intricate painting in 2001. He managed to draw and paint, depsite his increasing immobility, until a couple of years before he died. I will include photos of as many as his paintings throughout the blog as it progresses.
He was a lovely man, with a happy, contented outlook on life, a great sense of humour and a very caring nature. He will be sadly missed.
